Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Could Use Four Cluster Architecture
Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 last year, and the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was introduced last month as a minor upgrade offering a slight increase in performance. It should release the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (SM8550) next year. According to leaker Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm might switch from 1+3+4 tri-cluster architecture to 1+2+2+3 architecture.
This architecture will increase the problem of CPU scheduling and make it more complex, but the theoretical application scenario is more flexible and is expected to reduce power consumption. This is said to be Qualcomm’s move to control heat. The chip will likely use TSMC’s 4nm process tech, same as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
With this it is said to use 1 x Kryo Prime CPU (Arm Cortex-X3-based), 2 x Kryo Performance CPUs (A720-based), 2 x Kryo Performance CPUs (A710-based) and 3x Kryo Efficiency CPUs (A510-based). It is expected to feature Adreno 740 GPU.
There are no details about the CPU clock speed or the GPU performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Based on earlier launches, we can expect Xiaomi 13 series and Motorola X series (edge series globally) phones with the chip by the end of this year or early next week.
