Sharp AQUOS R8 Pro 6.6″ WUXGA+ 240Hz IGZO OLED Display Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 1″ camera sensor AQUOS R8 announced
Sharp has introduced AQUOS R8 and R8 Pro, the company’s latest flagship smartphones, in the 2023 summer line up in Japan as the successor to last year’s R7. The R8 has a 6.39-inch FHD+ IGZO OLED display with 1Hz-240Hz adaptive refresh rate, and the R8 Pro has a 6.6-inch WUXGA+ IGZO OLED display with 1Hz-240Hz adaptive refresh rate.
Both the phones are powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC with 8GB and 12GB RAM, respectively, with 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The R8 Pro has the same 47.2MP 1-inch image sensor with Summicron lens jointly developed with Leica. The processing speed for HDR shooting has been improved by approximately 40% compared to our previous models, said the company.
There is a dedicated mode for starry skies and fireworks. In addition, the AI engine, which has improved subject recognition accuracy, captures pets that move around actively.
The R8 has a 50.3MP 1/1.55 inch image sensor and a lens “Hector” supervised by Leica. The phone also has MIL-STD-810G/MIL-STD-810H standards. Both the phones have IPX5/IPX8/IP6X ratings for dust and water resistance. The R8 packs a 4,570mAh battery and the R8 Pro has a 5000mAh battery.

Availability
The Sharp AQUOS R8 and R8 Pro will be available from local carriers NTT Docmo and Softbank and other retailers in Japan from July 2023. Pricing will be announced closer to the launch.
