Qualcomm Unveils New Robotics Platforms 5G IoT Processors

Qualcomm is taking a big step in advancing the world of connected devices with the launch of the first integrated 5G IoT processors. These processors support four major operating systems, two new robotics platforms, and an accelerator program for IoT ecosystem partners. On March 17th, Qualcomm will showcase their new Snapdragon Mobile Platform in China.

As connected, intelligent, and autonomous devices become increasingly in-demand, Qualcomm Technologies is at the forefront of supplying manufacturers with the necessary platforms to compete in this rapidly growing market.

Precedence Research estimates this market will reach $116 billion by 2030, and Qualcomm Technologies is ready to meet the challenge with over 350 million dedicated IoT chipsets shipped.

Qualcomm QCS6490 and QCM6490 processors – World’s first integrated 5G IoT processors

Qualcomm Technologies has taken their already feature-rich QCS6490 and QCM6490 processors to the next level, now supporting four different operating systems. A first in the industry, the chipsets can run Linux, Ubuntu, Windows IoT Enterprise, and Android.

This opens up the doors to an array of IoT applications, such as:

• 5G-enabled global connectivity
• Geolocation
• Dashcams
• Edge boxes
• Industrial automation equipment (IPC, PLC)
• Autonomous mobile robotics

Scalable Qualcomm QCM5430 and QCS5430 processors

Qualcomm Technologies introduces the Qualcomm QCM5430 QCS, the first software-defined IoT solutions. With performance, premium connectivity, and support for multiple OS, the platforms can be used for a variety of IoT devices. This includes industrial handheld devices, retail equipment, mid-tier robots, connected cameras, and more. The platforms can also scale with upgradable options, including up to 4K60 video and Triple ISP camera.

Qualcomm QCM5430 Processor

The Qualcomm QCM5430/Qualcomm QCS5430 Feature Pack 1 and Feature Pack 2 include Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) with transmit speeds up to 3.6Gbps and other enhancements to reduce latency and increase responsiveness. The Feature Pack 2 also increases the CPU performance and interface support. Wired connectivity options include a single USB 3.1 port and 1 PCIe port, as well as up to two PCIe and a 4K60 display port. The Qualcomm QCM5430 processor variant also includes a 5G modem that supports mmWave connectivity.

Qualcomm Robotics RB1 and Robotics RB2 Platforms

Qualcomm Technologies are boundaries of robotics and IoT with the new Qualcomm Robotics RB1 and RB2 platforms. Both platforms are optimized for smaller devices and lower power consumption, enabling general compute & AI-focused performance and communications technologies, up to three cameras for machine vision, and on-board intelligence.

The RB2 features upgraded compute and GPU power with a dedicated AI accelerator, as well as security features such as a secure DSP and UI. It also supports various connectivity options and peripheral standards.

Currently, Qualcomm’s Robotics platforms are used in various industries and even flew the first helicopters on Mars in 2021.
