Motorola soon to offer the phone with an under-screen camera

Motorola launched the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 smartphone, Edge X30, late last year and a company executive has now teased a special edition of the phone that comes with an under-display camera.

Images of the upcoming Moto Edge X30 Under-Screen Camera Edition packaging were posted on Weibo by Chen Jin, general manager of Lenovo’s China Mobile Phone Business.

Under-screen cameras have been used on phones before, and they are getting better (and less distracting). In such phones, a part of the low-resolution screen is used above the selfie camera sensor, or smaller pixels are used in this area to let light through to the selfie camera.

Of course, the image quality deteriorates, but we’ve come a long way since the first phone with an under-screen camera (the ZTE Axon 20) was introduced in 2020.

Samsung is expected to stick with under-screen cameras for its foldable phone. Experts will see many more such under-screen selfie cameras in the second half of 2022 from some popular brands like Realme, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo.

Moto Edge X30 Under-Screen Camera Edition Specifications

The special edition specifications are expected to be similar to the original global variant.

The regular Edge X30 has a 6.7-inch (1080 x 2400 pixels) 10-bit OLED display HDR10+ compatible and supports a refresh rate of 144Hz. The SoC is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and is paired with up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage and 12GB of RAM.

Also, the selfie camera would have a 60MP sensor on the camera output below the screen, The triple camera system on the back is expected to remain the same – a 50MP main camera paired with a 50MP wide-angle shooter and a 2MP depth sensor, Other expected features include stereo speakers, a 5000mAh battery with 68W fast charging, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and Android 12 software.
