Motorola soon to offer the phone with an under-screen camera
Motorola launched the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 smartphone, Edge X30, late last year and a company executive has now teased a special edition of the phone that comes with an under-display camera.
Images of the upcoming Moto Edge X30 Under-Screen Camera Edition packaging were posted on Weibo by Chen Jin, general manager of Lenovo’s China Mobile Phone Business.
Under-screen cameras have been used on phones before, and they are getting better (and less distracting). In such phones, a part of the low-resolution screen is used above the selfie camera sensor, or smaller pixels are used in this area to let light through to the selfie camera.
Of course, the image quality deteriorates, but we’ve come a long way since the first phone with an under-screen camera (the ZTE Axon 20) was introduced in 2020.
Samsung is expected to stick with under-screen cameras for its foldable phone. Experts will see many more such under-screen selfie cameras in the second half of 2022 from some popular brands like Realme, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo.
