Meta Quest 3 is coming this fall Quest 2 gets price cut
After rumours, Meta has introduced Meta Quest 3, the company’s next-generation virtual and mixed reality headset. The company didn’t reveal the complete specifications, but said that it’s the most powerful headset.
The Quest 3 has the highest resolution display and pancake optics. It is powered by a next-generation Snapdragon chipset developed in collaboration with Qualcomm that promises twice the graphical performance as the previous generation Snapdragon GPU in Quest 2.
The Meta Reality technology lets you seamlessly blend your physical world with the virtual one and will allow you to navigate that space in natural, intuitive ways that were nearly impossible before, said the company.
The Quest 3 has a 40% slimmer optic profile compared to Quest 2 and the Touch Plus controllers have been redesigned with a more streamlined and ergonomic form factor.
With advances in tracking technology that outer tracking rings have been dropped, so the controllers feel like a more natural extension of your hands and take up less space, said Meta. The TruTouch haptics that first debuted in Touch Pro have been introduced.
There is also an optional fully self-tracked Meta Quest Touch Pro Controllers for a premium experience. With Direct Touch, hand tracking is supported out of the box, so you can use just your hands to interact with virtual objects.
Quest 3 is compatible with the Quest 2 catalog of over 500 VR games, apps, and experiences, more VR and MR titles will be available at the launch.
Pricing and availability
The Meta Quest 3 is priced at US$ 499.99 (Rs. 41,160 approx.), and will be available from fall. Meta will reveal more details at the Meta Connect on September 27.
