Apple May Launch New iPad Pro With M2 Chip Wireless Charging Later This Year
Apple is reportedly planning to release a new update to the iPad Pro line up later this year. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, the company will release a new iPad Pro powered by their latest M2 processor by September/October, and later release a 14-inch iPad Pro sometime in 2023.
In his latest edition of Power On, Mark Gurman explains that even though Apple is planning to launch a larger 14-inch iPad Pro in 2023, they are also planning to launch a smaller iPad Pro this year itself. The new iPad Pro, which is expected to launch sometime in September to October, will likely have the following specs:
- An M2 SoC
- Wireless charging support
- An upgraded camera system
Regarding the display technology, it is unlikely to have a Mini-LED display. Those displays are only expected on the bigger 12.9-inch model or the rumoured 14-inch model.
Releasing a new iPad Pro with M2 inside makes sense when you consider the biggest feature in the recently announced iPadOS 16 – Stage Manager. The feature improves upon the multitasking capability of iPadOS, however it is only limited to the M1-powered iPad Pros.
Even the 2020 iPad Pro with the A12Z Bionic SoC does not support the feature. Owners of the 2020 iPad Pro or older may want to upgrade their iPads to utilize this new functionality, and iPad Pro with M2 will be ideal.
