Details about the upcoming iPhone 15 models have already begun to emerge, and a new report suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro models will be buttonless. Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known Apple analyst, has revealed the information, which confirms the use of the USB-C port in future models.
So, what exactly does “buttonless design” imply? New iPhone models’ volume and power buttons may use a solid-state button design. This will take the place of physical buttons and will be integrated throughout the body.
Apple will use Taptic Engines inside the solid-state buttons to simulate the feel of a physical button. This appears to be similar to the home button design seen on the iPhone 7, SE2, and other devices. It’s unclear whether Apple will remove the mute switch or not.
Ming-Chi Kuo also appears to be knowledgeable about two potential major taptic engine suppliers: Luxshare ICT and AAC technologies. According to reports, both Chinese companies expect an 80%-100% increase in taptic engine shipments year over year in 2023 as a result of Apple’s decision.
He also confirms that the iPhone 15 models will have a USB Type C port. This is not surprising given the firm’s previous pressure from various authorities to adhere to the universal standard. Aside from that, Apple is expected to rename the “Pro Max” phone “Ultra” and differentiate the iPhone 15 Pros and iPhone 15 models.
