Google Photos Gets A New Collage Editor And New Features

Google is rolling a major update to Google Photos that brings a new collage editing tool in addition to a number of other new modifications to Memories. In addition to redesigning Memories, the update, according to Google, will also add new memory types, memory styles, and memory sharing, as well as a collage editor tool. Recently, Google announced new, animated emoji for Android.

The redesigned Memories experience

In the latest version, users will be able to watch more videos, including the best parts of longer recordings that Photos will choose and cut for them automatically. Still photographs will feel more vibrant with a modest zoom. Next month, Google will add instrumental music to some Memories. As always, users can conceal images of select people or time periods from Memories.

New animations, Cinematic photos and collages

Cinematic photos: Memories’ moving 3D photo representations have been one of our most-saved visual effects since 2020. Soon, users will witness full Cinematic Memories that transform several still photographs into an end-to-end cinematic experience, according to Google. Cinematic Memories has music, making your photos feel like a movie. We’re also introducing Styles, which adds graphic art to your memories to make them pop. Featured artists Shantell Martin and Lisa Congdon will make styles for Google Photos that will only be available for a short time.

Share your Memories: Your Google Photos memories are private, but we recognize you may wish to share them. Google is now rolling out the option to share entire memories with friends and family in a few taps on Android (iOS and Web coming soon), so they can view them on any device from Google Photos.

Creative editing tools

Smart suggestions, including Real Tone Filters, are easy-to-use editing tools with the new collage editor.

  • The new collage editor makes it easy to share photos. You can choose your photos, choose a design (including styles from featured artists), and then use drag-and-drop to change the layout.
  • The collage editor lets users alter brightness, contrast, and apply filters to photographs. Google One users and Pixel users can use Portrait Light or HDR to change collages and get access to 30 more designs.

Availability

Google Photos’ new collage editor starts rolling out today on Android and iOS. However, the Share Your Memories feature is rolling out to Android only at the moment and is expected to launch on iOS and the Web later this year.
