Today, AMD announced that it is extending its support of its expanding 5G partner ecosystem, which now ranges from core to radio access networks (RAN) applications. AMD has also launched new 5G products and additional testing capabilities.
The AMD wireless telecom partner ecosystem has grown considerably in the last year due to the integration of AMD and Xilinx products, as well as a new Telco Solutions testing lab in partnership with VIAVI. AMD recently unveiled its Ryzen 7045HX, 7040, 7035, and 7030 series mobile processors.

AMD Establishes New Telco Solutions Testing Lab
AMD is launching a Telco Solutions testing lab, located in Santa Clara, to help operators and providers test, validate, and build end-to-end computing solutions with the help of AMD’s processors, Adaptive SoCs, SmartNICs, FPGAs, and DPUs.
This lab will allow traffic simulation and generation across core, CU/DU, edge, and RAN with both current and future AMD technologies. The first 5G ecosystem partners are expected to join in Q2 of 2023.
Expanding the Zynq UltraScale+ Portfolio
AMD has introduced two new devices – the Zynq UltraScale+ ZU63DR and ZU64DR – to the Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC DFE family, which will facilitate the production and deployment of 4G/5G radios to address the cost, power and spectrum-efficient radios around the world.
The ZU63DR is tailored for 4T4R and dual-band O-RAN radio units, while the ZU64DR is equipped to support 8T8R O-RU applications using 3GPP split-8. Both devices take advantage of the advanced DFE capabilities of the Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC ZU67DR and are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2023. AMD will be showcasing the Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC DFE family at MWC Barcelona 2023.
AMD and Nokia’s Growing Ecosystem
AMD and Nokia have announced an expanded collaboration, using 4th Gen AMD EPYC™ processor-based servers, to help communications service providers achieve their energy efficiency goals. They understand the difficulties operators face with rising energy costs and the need to meet carbon reduction targets.
5G Innovation at MWC Barcelona 2023
At MWC 2023, AMD will showcase the latest 4th Gen AMD EPYC processor-powered systems in collaboration with technology partners such as Amdocs, Groundhog, Juniper, and Nokia.
5G ecosystem partners demonstrating radio solutions with AMD include Abside, Astrome, AW2S, CellXica, Comba, Fujitsu, Mavenir, NEC, Solid, Tejas, Ulak, Viettel, VVDN, and Zlink.
You can visit AMD at MWC in Hall 2, Stand 2M61 from February 27th to March 2nd, 2023.
Speaking on the announcement, Salil Raje, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group, AMD, said,
AMD has made incredible progress in the radio market and is proud to be showcasing at MWC Barcelona our collaboration with over 15 radio system ecosystem partners designing O-RAN-based remote radio units for open interfaces using AMD Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoCs and MPSoCs.
With our focus toward increasing 5G deployments around the world, the new AMD Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoCs are especially cost-effective and energy-efficient, making them ideal for emerging global markets including rural and outdoor deployments.
