Qualcomm has unveiled its sixth generation 5G modem-to-antenna solution, the Snapdragon X75 and X72 5G Modem-RF System. These new chips follow the budget-friendly Snapdragon X35 modem that was released last week.
The Qualcomm 5G AI Processor Gen 2 has replaced the company’s current 5G AI processor in a modem-RF system. To accomplish this, Qualcomm has introduced new dedicated Tensor accelerator hardware for the first time on the Snapdragon X75.
According to the company, the new Qualcomm 5G AI Processor Gen 2 provides over 2.5x better AI performance than Gen 1 and introduces the Qualcomm 5G AI Suite Gen 2 with new AI-powered optimizations to achieve better speeds, coverage, mobility, link robustness, and location accuracy.
Qualcomm 5G AI Suite Gen 2 Features:
- Sensor-modem-RF solution for mmWave beam management.
- AI-enhanced channel state feedback (CSF)
- AI-enhanced antenna tuning
- AI-enhanced GNSS Location Gen 2
As a result of this AI based acceleration, the Snapdragon X75 5G Modem-RF System has become the world’s first modem-RF system ready for 5G Advanced. Further, it offers good 5G performance and spectrum flexibility with 10-carrier aggregation for mmWave, 5X carrier aggregation for sub-6 bands, and 5G uplink MIMO.
The new Snapdragon X75 5G Modem-RF System will enable 5G Advanced across all key verticals including Smartphones, Mobile broadband, Automotive, Compute Satellite communications, Industrial IoT, Fixed wireless access, and Private networks.
Snapdragon X75 5G Modem Supports
- 5G NR, LTE, LAA, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, GSM/ Edge, CBRS, Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS), EN-DC, NR-DC, mmWave, sub-6 GHz
- 5G Peak Upload Speed: 3.5 Gbps
- 5G Peak Download Speed: 10 Gbps
- 5G Bandwidth up to 1000 MHz
- Up to 10CC aggregation in mmWave, upto 5CC aggregation in 5G sub-6GHz
- FDD, TDD, SA (standalone), NSA (non-standalone) 5G modes
- Qualcomm 5G PowerSave Gen 4 and Qualcomm RF Power Efficiency Suite for extended battery life
- Qualcomm Smart Transmit Gen 4 to allow for fast, reliable and long-range uploads – and now including support for Snapdragon Satellite.
- Qualcomm DSDA Gen 2 enables 5G/4G Dual Data on two SIM cards simultaneously.
The Snapdragon X72 5G Modem-RF System, on the other hand, is a 5G modem-to-antenna solution designed for widespread adoption of mobile broadband applications, with multi-Gigabit download and upload speeds.
The Snapdragon X75 is currently being sampled to OEMs, with commercial mobile devices expected to launch in late 2023.
Regarding the launch, Durga Malladi, senior vice president and general manager, cellular modems and infrastructure, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. said,
5G Advanced will take connectivity to a whole new level, fueling the new reality of the Connected Intelligent Edge. Snapdragon X75 Modem-RF System demonstrates the full breadth of our global 5G leadership, with innovations such as hardware accelerated AI and the support for upcoming 5G Advanced capabilities, which unlock a whole new level of 5G performance and a new phase in cellular communications.
